Compulsive Behavior
Assessment and Treatment
Compulsive behavior is when someone keeps doing the same action because they feel like they have to, even though they know these actions do not align with their goals. It refers to persistent and repetitive actions that a person feels driven to perform, often in response to intrusive thoughts or anxieties.
In most cases, individuals with compulsive behavior are aware that their actions are excessive or unreasonable, but they still feel compelled to perform them.
There are many strategies to eliminate unwanted behavior problems. To address compulsive behaviors, we will employ techniques such as practicing mindfulness, and employing techniques like exposure and response prevention or cognitive-behavioral therapy to identify and manage triggers and urges.
